Say what? But how can I be more productive by doing nothing on purpose?

You ever feel an sense of anxiety when you know you should be productive but can’t seem to get anything done? Maybe you’ve been productive up until this point, but for some reason you just can’t get back into the swing of things.

It may be time not to just take a break, but to actually schedule some time to do nothing!

Not only does doing nothing recharge your batteries, but literally makes us more creative, better at problem-solving, better at coming up with creative ideas.

TIPS FOR DOING NOTHING ON PURPOSE:

1. Carve out time and permit yourself just to be –  Build into your calendar space to think, observe and listen to your inner voice. When your time is spent on those things you most value and are beneficial to your well-being, you’ll better focus on what matters most.

2. Change your environment –  Changing your environment might mean leaving your work-area, simply going outside can work wonders. And if you can’t leave your workplace, close computer tabs, turn off notifications, silence your phone for a few blissful minutes of stillness.

3. Lose the guilt –  Realize that taking a break is good for you, lose the shameful feelings around idleness. The most successful people realize that slowing down periodically, is the best way to cross the finish line.

4. Put down the devices –  Pull out an old fashioned pen and paper and just start writing. This one of the best ways to de-clutter your mind and put your life back into perspective. Go ahead! take the day off, go to a Starbucks, order a latte and start scribbling.
